The Streak Continues

Where to start, where to start. First, I am sorry for not getting a new column out sooner, but I had lost the motivation to write. That has returned. I would like to extend an invitation to those interested to pen a guest column for the front page of the website. This I feel will help to minimize the dead air as well as to introduce some new ideas and new writers to the site. All guest columns can be emailed to the website administrator for final approval.

Now as for results, I want to send a belated congrats to Brian and Rick for winning and resetting the 160' record in Lima. As most of you know, that lasted about 3 weeks and was reset by Mark Hess at the National in Springfield, Illinois. This is what I like about this sport, at Bloomsburg Jason Williams not only won the race, not only reset the record, but also took fast reaction time. Talk about a points haul! 3 races, 3 different winners. Mean Streak kept its own streak alive by hurting the tranny in Lima and then grenading it in spectacular fashion in Schaghticoke, NY. Broken parts may very well be a part of racing, but after a year it is getting kinda old. Fortunately there aren't any old parts left, so look for this streak to end. I would like to thank Mike Z and crew for putting on a good race at a very nice facility. In a post race conversation Mike informed me that there is the possibility for more races there, as well as a higher than expected car count with very little advertising.

On the Racer Association front, there is still a steady stream of dialog with some really good ideas being thrown around. Two of them that I really like are the formation of geographical divisions, where racers compete locally to see who qualifiies to race nationally, and institution of a qualified field with first to the stripe winners. These ideas most definitely have a draw with asphalt drag fans, as the formats would then be the same and much easier to understand for the novice fan. One final note is to wish Brian and Kim Erne's daughter Lizzy a speedy recovery from surgery. Get well and we'll see you soon.

That's all for now.

Great to see a new post, and
I'm also happy to report that Lizzy Erne was not only in attendance at Transfer, but appeared to be in good spirits and health. Let's all wish her the best in the months to come.
Mean Streak was sorely missed at the second annual pro-stock / pro mod shootout. Not only a loyal participant to this venue, but a valuable collaborator, we outright lost ground without you there.
I won't wear out my welcome here, because I plan to take advantage of your "guest host" format soon.
Please disregard the gibberish text I may have posted, I'm still trying to figure out how this stuff works, logging on, posting, etc.

Hello again - just a short list of class 3 from Essex (haven't seen it posted anywhere, just bits and pieces)

1.jason Williams(getting jiggy)2.840
2. Sam franklin (untamed)2.886
3. terry slocum (sledgehammer)3.09
4. Brendan Kinsella(pure Fury)3.195
5. Bernie Korczakowski (flirtin w/ disaster) 3.329
6. terry Ziegler (miss guided)3.379
7. melvin Jones (plum fast2)3.457
8. cecil Phillips (toy chevy)3.595
9. charles Hann (gone postal)3.737
10. darrell Heroux (play time) 3.817

Looks like Williams has the championship sewed up with 465 points after essex.(he has worked hard for this - nice job Jason) Nagele and Franklin are tied for second with 260 points each. (looks like it will come down to Indy for that one).

enough for now before I talk to much and put my foot in my mouth. Got to do some work on the sledgehammer to get ready for Pownal, Vt. on the 16 of Aug.

OK its time to speak out.
An issue that came up in class 3 was vehicle weight. Rules say they have to weigh 3000lbs. One of the top 3 trucks at bloomsburg was said to only weigh 2930 lbs at the final weigh in after the race. (Rumor has it that it was light at Lima also). Did they let it slide? - Yes. But this time, NMRO told him to correct the problem, or not come back for class 3. They backed this up at Essex by sticking to the minium weight of 3000 lbs. during tech and final weigh in.

I say good for them!

Now if we can get them to look at engine set back? or narrowed bodys? before we become another rail class.

im glad to see them crack down myself if the rules say 3000lbs i feel thats what it should be, not 2990,lbs we all pretty much add wieght at some point an its not that big of a deal to add a few more lbs to it so im glad to see them go in the wright direction with this, thanks for the comment traveler we have put in alot of time on this ol junker but i might have not been so lucky if a few other racers hadnt had such bad luck this year wich i am sorry to say because i think it would have came down to the wire an thats what makes it all worth wild to me i like the racing to be tight to the end, that makes it good for the fans as well.

Again, I apologize for the gibberish. I will someday catch on to how this computer stuff works.
I have no knowledge of the specific weigh in issues you guys speak of, and yes, it's great to hear that by Essex they finally stuck to the rules, but that would make me scream even louder to know that a violation was recognized, only to say fix it for next time. To me, that's worse than not catching it at all. To me, enforcing the rules would have been to DQ an underweight vehicle on the after race weigh in. That's how you convey that you're enforcing rules. If the scenario described happened, that says that everyone has a free pass the first time they are caught. Maybe they'll tell me to unhook the nitrous bottle for the next race...

Mean streak, I am hoping you can make it for the upcoming Transfer race. We had so much hook in the track this year, half a dozen entries broke something on the track. This does sound somewhat morbid, but it also speaks volumes for what fast mud promotions has built up over the years. It would be a great place for you to make sure the new trans is going to live.

I am not in disagreement with what you said, But the past is the past and I think this one issue that was corrected is a huge step in the right direction for NMRO. One can only hope they continue to set the guide line for the rules and enforce them with consistence. I believe thats all any racer can ask of them - To say what you meen and meen what you say.

Class 3 is slowly eroding away - I have seen car counts drop by 40% - 50% from what was once the largest class in the NMRO. Why? (and don't tell me its the cost of gas - because thats bunk). I think its because the little guy can't compete anymore.

Pownal, Vt. (Tri-State Fair race)was a good time. Mike Z(Z1 supplies) and crew pulled it together to make a good race. This was the first year for this one. Hopefully we will be back. There was a class for stock/ street trucks as well as NMRO class 3 (Brendan Kinsella (pure fury)1st place). Class 4(Bill Lee jr. (TnT)1st place). There was some breakage on some of the trucks,But the talk in the pits was positive and they would come back again. (thought we would see Mean Streak there)?

Rumor was most were going to try to make the transfer race next week on the 25th.

glad to hear the show in vt was a success we need more venues to support the racing everywhere.I will be heading up to transfer this weekend it should be a good show hope to see you there traveler. I agree anything the nmro does to enforce what they have is a step in the right direction for a change. After the ramp issue in bloomsburg after alot of talk they are considering spring loadded ramps for indy to keep the cars from vaulting over like they did with the current ones this again is a good sign that at least they are listening to concerns. Traveler like you said alot of people have been breaking lately that may add to the lower turnouts, Im hoping too to see the meanstreak at transfer his post over the winter said he was gonna focus on reliabilty this year its been over 2 months since he blew a tranny no one has seen him since.remember a winner never quits and a quitter never wins!
